I am a BABCP accredited cognitive behavioural therapist. I use CBT to help those who have become stuck and are struggling to see the wood through the trees. CBT looks at how a problem developed and how this impacts on the here and now. CBT looks at what maintains the problem and how we can look to break cycles. CBT is educational, collaborative (between therapist and client and at times, client families) and proactive.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is looking at the connection between your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and physical symptoms. CBT looks at what the problem is and how it is maintained through the interaction of these four elements. CBT is very much an interactive and collaborative therapy.
CBT is recommended by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and is evidence based. This means that studies have shown that CBT is highly effective therapy. You might not know what the problem is exactly but feel that something isn’t quite right. Or you might have a diagnosis (either one you think you might have or previously diagnosed). Whichever it is, we can help you in most circumstances. Some of the difficulties I can help with are:

I'm Claire Gask and I am a BABCP accredited CBT therapist. I received my diploma in CBT in 2015. Previous to this I was working as a psychological wellbeing practitioner (PWP) for 5 years within the NHS. This role meant that I conducted assessments for therapy and did low intensity CBT interventions for those with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Prior to this I was a research assistant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Through working with families, I yearned to provide more care than I was able to give at the time, resulting in my training as a PWP for an IAPT service. As I spent my time delivering CBT, I wanted to further my education and ability to practice techniques I saw working so effectively. This inspired me to privately fund my training so I did this alongside my everyday job. I left the NHS in 2015 and now work both at The Priory as a CBT therapist and in my own private practice. Not many people can say they both enjoy and gain satisfaction from their job on a daily basis but I do! The collaborative nature of CBT results in a great therapeutic relationship which empowers clients to make significant changes to their lives. As an accredited member of the BABCP, I adhere to a code of ethics and code of conduct.

All sessions are confidential except when you pose a risk to yourself or others.
Sessions can be done remotely over video or phone or can be held face to face. Face to Face sessions are in a COVID-19 safe environment. You will be required to wear a mask upon entering the building and throughout the session, your temperature will then be taken by reception staff. Hand sanitiser is provided for your convenience also. In the therapy room, I have a screen between yourself and I throughout the session. Masks will need to be worn throughout unless you are exempt. All materials will be emailed to you and you will need to bring your own paper and pen for any work done in session. All touch points, chairs etc, are cleaned between each therapy session throughout the day. If you would like to see my COVID-19 risk assessment, then please do ask.

Claire Gask is a BABCP accredited CBT therapist, with experience from the NHS, the Priory and Great Ormand Street Hospital.
